So...where should we start?  Should we set a meeting once we get a certain number of members?   I think a trip to a council meeting is in order, but we need to get all of our ideas out there and get…Continue

There will be a new Police Chief in town, Gary Hampton starting on August 20th. A former Tracy PD Captain he knows our city well. http://www.tracypress.com/view/full_story/14575522/article-Tracy-Po...

Chief Hampton is a HUGE gang prevention advocate. We are so lucky to have him. He's coming from Turlock, where in 5 yrs he made an enormous impact on the community significantly reducing crime, drug and gang education and traffic safety.  You can read his Turlock resignation article  http://www.turlockcitynews.com/index.php?option=com_content&vie...

Also, October is national Anti-Bullying Month and the T.U.S.D. has big plans. There will be a huge emphysis on abuse and domestic violence and bullying in schools.  Red Carpet Event at the Grant Theatre in the works, poster/video contests, a safety fair, Facebook 101, and a circle of hand holding which proves that Tracy resident's 'stand together' against Bullying. Lots of positive things to look forward to!

the sad part of that?  guess where they're coming?  :-(  I've heard that some of the recent tagging points to Livermore gangs...so they're going to the next closest place...boooo!

Definitely a commuter mentality...as a former commuter, once you get home you are spent.

My thought is that the citizens don't feel like they have a voice...so this would not only give them the ability to speak with little effort, but also removes any rationale from anyone's mind that the city "doesn't know" how the citizens feel.  Basically takes any ability to make excuses off the table.  Not sure if anyone is using excuses, but it removes that ability!  Always a good thing.  ;-)

Plus, with the verbage and questioning we're looking at...we find out a few demographics (age and location) so that we can judge who is worried...where they are at...etc.  I'm also proposing a few questions to get an idea about shopping patterns and incorporating whether safety skews those as well.  Basically, I'm trying to get a grand slam of data!  ;-)

I agree...wish people would come to council meetings...I've gone to a few...it's a lot to spend 2+ hours in there when often you just don't feel the subject matter applies to you.  But it is our town, so it's important that we know what's what and who the players are.

I'll keep you guys posted on where we're at...still waiting to hear back on Version 2 of the questions.  :-)

I would think the City knows exactly how the community feels (at least the law abiding ones), so not sure if the survey will tell them much.  It would be nice if citizens would show up in force at council meetings, although I myself have not attended one in awhile for various reasons. We recently moved back into Tracy and still feel a bit unsettled and I don't put it on a calendar to remind me of the dates.  For some reason I think this is a tough town to get citizens together to fight for a cause (always has been).  Maybe it's the commuter city mentality?  Lack of people reading the local paper?  A feeling that citizens have no input?

Bob & Tony...thanks!  :-)

The safety survey is more of a feel for how residents are feeling.  The comments on the Press say something, but it isn't a true representation of the town (possibly it is...this will see!).  I think we're going to do online as well as in person...so I'll keep you guys posted!

It won't be a door to door...but instead be more of approaching folks in public locales to take a moment of their time.

@ New:  What exactly is a safety survey and I guess my main question is; what can a survey tell us that a crime study (which is free) can't?  If it's what I'm thinking, it take talking to folks and asking them how they feel about a certain area or crime in it.  Problem with that (if that's what it is) is trying to get folks to answer the door, then talk.

Like I said before, I'm available to help in anyway to get this moving without having the city come out of pocket like; getting crime statics, felony & misdemeanor reports to include in custody arrest and citation arrest since the paper-trail doesn't lie.

Not sure how the survey would be distributed or advertised.  Once you have some further discussions on a process maybe we can get some volunteers within this group to assist if necessary.  I'm pretty new to this site, but it seems every group on here has a shortage of activity.

well...been awhile since I've posted and nobody else seems to have.  Not sure if concerns have lessened and people have moved on or what...but I haven't.

I'm working with the chief to get a safety survey out (I volunteered after the City Manager said it would cost $30000!!!) so that they can know what areas people are worried about and what issues people hold dear.  It won't be JUST downtown...but ALL of Tracy.  Takes a bit to get done, but it'll be online and in person sometime semi-soon.  :-)

I also just put my application in for the Measure E Oversight Committee.  I really do care about what happens...so I'm making a stand...sometimes talking just doesn't get the job done, so I'm walking the talk (which is a saying that really annoys me but fits!).

Hope to meet some of you in the survey process...

GREAT council meeting...watched from home and missed the start...but just watched Councilman Rickman ask the chief if we have a gang problem!  She had to say yes!!!  Ives was shaking his head...but I have to say, even he dropped the hammer a couple of times tonight...I think the pressure is mounting!!!
