A buddy of mine from high school and college many, many, MANY years ago when I lived on Guam has just published a book about Guam (and island-life in general). Check out her website and pass this info on to any Guamanians or Chamoru you know! http://web.me.com/jillette/Site_2/Guamology_Publishing_P.O._Box_576...

Just hooked up with a bunch of my Guam compadres (former classmates, former students, former colleagues). And found the following website:
http://islanderview.com/ They are trying to become a new quarterly eZine/magazine for those of us with islander longings or background. To keep up with the Guam, Northern Marianas, Micronesian, Polynesian, and other islandy things going on, check them out and subscribe to the 'zine. Tell them that *Dave Gardner* from Guam let you know about them! Dankulu na si yu'us ma'ase!

I've been working on a lot of my Squidoo lenses lately--and have added more pictures of Guam to them--not necessarily my main Squidoo lens about Guam (which is http://www.squidoo.com/guam_experience) but the lenses that connect to it--about boonie stomping, snorkeling, and the critters and plants of the island. Drop by and visit the Squidoo lens when you are getting homesick about the island.... occasionally, you'll see Guam boonie peppers (for finedeni sauce!) and other goodies you can get in the eBay, Amazon, and CafePress modules on the site (or related sites named within the main Guam site). There are also souvenirs from the island featured there--including T-Shirts, hats, mugs, sweaters, stickers, and magnets and so on... So, if you didn't manage to snag any momentos before you scooted off the island, you can still get some things to remember the island by. We have two rooms of our house decorated "tropical style"--one is the Guam room and the other is the Hawaii-Philippines room. We love sitting in there and relaxing or reading and listening to Guam or Hawaiian music. The only thing that would make it better is a Pina Colada or Mai Tai!

Amusing! This group ALWAYS has a "HAFA Directive" :-)
Hafa Lai! Hafa tata mano hao?

So, how do we get our other Guam buddies to join this group and participate? The July "Liberation Day" fiesta/picnic will be here sooner than we think... and we need to get our act together to get the finedeni, the kelaguin, the pancit, lumpia, red rice, and other goodies ready!

Please refer your Guam buddies here in Tracy to join Tracy Island Online so we can *network* locally!

Hafa lai! Manasamasaga hao? Ko hutungo fumino Chamoru? Anyone learning Chamoru (or proficient in it) here?
David Gardner Comment by David Gardner on August 5, 2009 at 11:05pm
Ahem. Is there any place on my two Squidoo lenses mentioned below that indicated any "grass skirts"? :-) If you were wearing grass skirts when we were there, that would have been a sight to see! Unless, of course, you are referring to Yap or Palau... or Hawaii.

I guess I need to get over there to get a cup of coffee and one of those great Cinnamon Raisin Rolls! Yum!
