She Who Learns Must Suffer

She (He Who Learns Must Suffer).Change is perhaps the only constant in life. I look back over the decades and like a film my life plays out in little snap shots. My first memory is as a four year old playing on the trampoline with my dad standing with his arms outstretched. ‘Catch me Daddy,’ I would shout out in giddy delight. Like most little girls I was the apple of my father’s eye. He put me in a Catholic Convent in Lahore Pakistan when I turned four years old. I would come home to my…See More

Poverty in America: Worlds within Worlds by Samina Masood

They say the earth is not made of atoms, it is made of tales. Tales of humanity, and  the struggle implied therein.  In an essay by author Barbara Ehrenreich, who wrote “Nickle and Dimed” in  2001, she gives insights into some tales worth analyzing. She analyses the period of the rapid rise in industrial fortunes of the 80s, to the tanking of the economy by 2008.  During the dot come explosion, many middle class Americans were able to take advantage of the capitalists fortune making markets.…See More

TO LIVE IS TO LOVE

A child is said to be a product of his home. Home is defined largely by the people who raise the child, one’s parents have strong influence on how one turns out as an adult. However after a certain age, the more general social milieu surrounding the child comes into play. The country one resides in, it’s sub cultures, politics and socio economic environment all play into the kind of individual one turns out to be. Having lived in and been exposed to a multiplicity of cultures, I had the unique…See More

Ode To Mom

She was born is a small town in India in 1920 to a fifteen year old Kashmiri girl who was married at thirteen and already had given birth to one other girl. Saeeda and her sister were a year apart, but had completely different personalities. Saeeda was a tom boy, playing outside, climbing trees, getting her clothes dirty, grazing her knees, playing foot ball with neighbourhood kids. Her sister was the feminine one, fussing over her clothes and hair, staying indoors listening to music. Their…See More
