I heard that the new Winco had opened in Tracy a couple weeks ago and wasn't really motivated to make a trip out there. One colleague told me she visited the opening weekend and that they were selling 5-pound bags of potatoes for 25c. My reply, "sounds like a great deal, but those types of deals just don't last." It was another friend's statement that prompted me to consider going when she texted me from the store with this statement: "I may never shop at Safeway EVER AGAIN! I love this place!"

I live all the way on the other side of town closer to Raleys and Savemart, so Winco is not really a convenient shopping place for me. But nonetheless, I was leaving Kaiser Permanente this week and decided since I was in the area, I would go and check it out.

As I drove through the parking lot I noticed that Party City had recently closed its store right across from Winco.

Winco is pretty amazing. Aisles and aisles of every imaginable product from toilet paper to nuts to pig's feet to pizza, it is definitely one stop shopping here.

My daughter almost lost her mind when we got to the bulk candy aisle and I heard a grown man walking behind me say "WOW!! I don't ever want to leave."

I took some pictures for those of you who haven't visited to see. But I recommend a trip out there yourself to really get the full magnitude of the store. If you love shopping, you will love this store.

I was planning to just go and take a look, but after a peek at the prices, I completed most of my Thanksgiving shopping right there on the spot. Great deals on every aisle. I hope they do well here in Tracy.

Their bulk foods section is spectacular with every kind of candy, nut, dried fruit, pasta and bean you can think of!

Lots of amazing deals on every day items

happy to hear about everyone shopping at WinCo...keeps my Raley's lines shorter! ;-)

Low prices are great, but when you are buying for one as I do...you can opt more for service and setting...and Raley's is my favorite. I went to SaveMart because it was close the other day...their sale tags promote the SAVINGS not the price (which throws you off if you don't shop there!) and the checker was a bit rude. I'll now drive farther even if I am in a hurry...Raley's is always pleasant and stress-free. At Safeway I get ticked off as soon as I try to park. I went there twice since moving here 2 years ago...never again. Oh, the seemingly perpetual police car at the Tracy Blvd SaveMart is a bit of a turnoff for what it's worth. ;-)

Glad to see that WinCo is making a good impression...competition keeps all the stores after our patronage!

Yes Victor, we are spoiled in Tracy. I don't like to drive across town unless I have to because I don't have to :) That's why we live in Tracy and not the Bay Area.

My last 2 cents. I bought these items [just a sample] at WinCo that I doubt you would find any where else except at a specialty store:
Panda Express Orange Sauce for dipping
Japanese sticky rice
Potstickers [much better than Raley's at a lower price].

The selection of breads and cereal was much more extensive than the competition.
I found over 5 or 6 brand of bread for $1 or less and others for under $1.50.
Store brands of cereal were under $2
Name brands of salad dressings also under $2
Tejava Ice Tea I used to buy at Save Mart for $1.75 - 98cents

The main difference is the SELECTION. This is one stop shopping. Why drive to different stores [gas $$] to buy items on special?

Sorry again for my cynical attitude, but Tracy is a SMALL town. It doesn't take that long to go anywhere in Tracy! Have you ever lived in San Jose? Try driving to the "other side of town" in the South Bay. I'm still new to Tracy but I think some of the people here are a little spoiled by everything being centrally located. I lived in Hayward and there are more fast food places to eat at the intersection of Clover and N. Tracy Blvd. than all the places in Hayward put together.

Saw that Tracy Press article....yeah, Sunny goes out to get it, and I actually read the paper still! No matter...the closeness of the other stores more than makes up that price difference for us. Now, we may go there occasionally, but, not all the time.

Altough I love the new Winco as I said in the post, I will probably not shop there that often as I live clear over the other side of town and SaveMart/Raleys will still be the stores I run to get small items. Now my big one-two times a month shopping list, thats a different story.

Sorry to disagree, but I am one shopper who will probably not go to Save Mart or Safeway anymore. Why wait for items to go on special? WinCo's regular price on most items are usually lower than their competitor's sale price. And the selection is far superior. Tracy Press did a price comparison on 10 commonly purchased items and WinCo's prices were at least $5-6 lower than Save Mart or Safeway's discounted prices.

The comments: "I won't shop at Safeway anymore" or "I won't shop anywhere else" is what the scared the living daylights out of the grocery stores a few years back when this store was first announced. For us too, it is a long way away from home (relatively speaking), so the savings may not be as great. Also, we browsed the store and Lori was not impressed with the prices of the stuff we bought a lot and could get on special at Save Mart or Safeway.

And these are normal prices. The store is Employee Owned and they want to keep prices down. I recently went in and came out with about $9.00 worth of groceries for $1.02 as the coupons they provided in the mail paid for most of what I bought. Kelly and I wont go shopping anywhere else, we usually would go shopping around town for bargains and now it's WinCo all the way for us.
